About soft
The soft type of ackee, also called butter, has a soft yellow aril, in contrast to the hard, cream-colored aril of the cheese (hard) type. Ackee is native to tropical West Africa. The scientific name honours Captain William Bligh, who took the fruit from Jamaica to the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, England, in 1793.
