Kimmei

Kimmei is a striking golden-culmed clumping bamboo (Bambusa) with narrow green vertical stripes and finely striped green-and-cream leaves. Grown in a pot or under stress it develops swollen, bulging lower internodes for a sculptural look, while in rich open ground it tends to throw straight, unbellied culms that can reach 30 to 40 feet or more. It prefers mild winters, ideally staying above about 21F, roughly USDA zone 9. A colorful specimen and screen bamboo.
