About Wamin
Wamin, the Buddha-belly bamboo, is a dramatic clumping bamboo (Bambusa) whose dark, glossy green culms, up to about 3 inches wide, have sharply shortened and inflated lower internodes that give a sculptural, pot-bellied look; a striped form shows light-on-dark green striping. Full sun brings out the strongest belly effect, while deep shade makes the canes stretch and lose it. A tender tropical to subtropical clumper best in warm, near-frost-free climates (roughly USDA zone 9b to 11, hardy to about 28F), it usually grows 8 to 15 feet tall. A favorite feature and container bamboo.
