About J. H. Beaumont

'J. H. Beaumont' is a Hawaiian acerola clone named for J. H. Beaumont, who directed the Hawaii Agricultural Experiment Station during the period when the station carried out its major acerola evaluation work. It is described as a compact clone with good productivity and orange-reddish fruit, which sets it apart from the taller, more spreading Hawaiian selections such as 'Manoa Sweet'. It belongs to the sour group along with 'C. F. Rehnborg' and 'F. Haley', and like them it is documented as better adapted to drier growing areas than the sweet clones. The compact habit makes it interesting for small yards and hedge plantings where a 15 ft acerola would be too much plant. It is listed in the California Rare Fruit Growers cultivar roster but is seldom offered in the mainland nursery trade.
