Dolce Fresca

Dolce Fresca was bred by PanAmerican Seed and named a 2015 All-America Selections Edible-Vegetable Winner, judged against Italian Large Leaf and Minette as the market comparisons of the day. Its selling point was solving the classic Genovese problem in a container: full pesto-grade leaf on a plant that stays mounded and ornamental instead of bolting upright and going leggy. AAS judges credited the compact habit, strong scent and vigorous regrowth, and the plant is deliberately attractive enough to sit in a mixed patio pot or a border edge rather than being hidden in a herb row. Fedco put it through their 2023 basil trials and kept it in the catalogue, which is a reasonable independent signal for a variety that is now a decade old. It is the pick when you want true Genovese flavour but the growing space is a pot on a deck.
