About Emily
Emily is a Genovese basil from the Dutch breeder Enza Zaden, developed for the professional herb trade rather than the home seed packet, and it shows in what the breeder emphasises: pot production and fresh-cut harvest into bags, clamshells and bunches. The variety is compact enough to finish as a potted herb but carries medium-to-large Genovese leaves, so it is not a small-leaf bush type masquerading as Genovese. Its commercial argument is post-harvest, since Enza and its distributors highlight improved shelf life, and Rupp Seeds recommends it specifically for summer cropping and for year-round production in hot climates. It also performs well against Fusarium, the soil-borne wilt that has historically wrecked basil beds in repeat plantings. For a home grower, Emily is the choice when the plan is repeated cutting through a hot summer rather than a single ornamental pot.
