About Rosie

Rosie is a purple basil selected as a cleaner replacement for 'Rubin', whose stands are notoriously patchy with green off-types. High Mowing sells it as organic, open-pollinated seed and frames the improvement precisely: very uniform germination and stand, no green off-types, and stronger, more upright stems than Rubin. That uniformity is the whole argument for growing it, because a purple basil bed that is actually purple, on stems straight enough to bunch, is not something the older purple varieties reliably deliver. Territorial adds a second use case, listing it as a cut flower with lavender spikes for bouquets alongside its kitchen role. Flavour is milder than the near-black foliage suggests, which suits it to garnish, colour and fresh use more than to pesto.
