About Boldor
Boldor is an open-pollinated golden beet carried in Bejo's assortment, and it exists to fix the one real weakness of yellow beets: they germinate unevenly and start slowly next to red types. Fedco is blunt about why growers switch — Boldor's germination and vigour get it moving faster than the other yellow beets, which makes it easier to bring through a rough spring even though Touchstone Gold's interior has more visual punch. Johnny's draws the same comparison from the other side, rating Boldor's improved seedling vigour against an interior a shade lighter than Touchstone's. Fedco's own taste panel came down on Boldor's side anyway. Bejo adds that the variety takes early sowing, stretching the golden-beet season at the front end.
