About Southern Belle
Southern Belle is a southern highbush blueberry variety released by the University of Florida in 2002 and patented as U.S. Patent PP13,931. Softwood cuttings from the original seedling were rooted and used to establish a clonal plot near Homerville, Georgia in 1984. It was bred from Vaccinium corymbosum and V. darrowi. It is a low-chill clone intended for production of fruit that can be harvested early in the season in areas with mild winters, and although the fruit can be frozen or otherwise processed, most production is expected to be harvested for fresh-market shipments early in the harvest season.
