Dancing Ballerinas

'Dancing Ballerinas' is not a single cultivar but a deliberate mix assembled by Renee's Garden around one shared trait: fluted petals. Plants throw fully double and semi-double blossoms whose petals are rolled and pleated into narrow tubes, so each flower reads as a ruffled skirt rather than the flat four-petalled cup of the wild California poppy. Colour comes out across a sherbet range of deep rose, lilac, scarlet, orange, yellow and white, and because it is a blend, no two plants in a drift look quite alike. That variability is precisely what buyers want from it, and equally the reason it is the wrong choice if you need a uniform block of one shade. Renee's markets the components as heirloom, and the stand self-sows if pods are left to ripen.
