Tequila Sunrise

'Tequila Sunrise' is a two-colour seed blend rather than a single cultivar: Renee's Garden combines a luminous soft cream poppy with a deep stained-glass red one and sells the pairing as an exclusive. The two components do not open together, and that is the point. The cream comes into flower first and the red follows on behind it, so a planting shifts in colour across several weeks instead of peaking and fading all at once. Gardeners choosing it over a single-shade selection are buying that sequencing, not a novel flower form; the petals are the ordinary satiny, thin-textured cups of the species, held above feathery grey-green foliage. Renee's describes the components as heirloom and the combination as its own.
