About Monticello White
'Monticello White' is one of the most common chayote (Sechium edule) varieties grown in Florida, alongside 'Florida Green'. Native to Guatemala, chayote is a cucurbit that produces light green, pear-shaped fruit weighing between six ounces and three pounds, each holding a single, flat, edible seed. Wasps and bees visit the flowers and pollinate them, and fruit develop from the female flowers about 35 days after pollination.
