About Cherry
Cherries are a beloved fruit enjoyed worldwide, belonging to the genus Prunus and the subgenus Cerasus. These fruits are drupes, or stone fruits, characterized by their fleshy exterior and a single hard seed in the center. While there are many species of cherry trees, the most common are the sweet cherry (Prunus avium) and the sour cherry (Prunus cerasus). Sweet cherries, as their name suggests, are typically eaten fresh, while sour cherries have a higher acid content and are often used in cooking and baking, particularly for pies and preserves.
