About New Zealand White

New Zealand White is the white clover (Trifolium repens) most commonly reached for when the clover has to be walked on, driven over and mown, rather than cut for hay. Johnny's notes it can handle foot and tractor traffic better than other clovers and is specifically well suited to living-mulch use, which is why it turns up in orchard rows, vineyard alleys and vegetable pathways rather than in pasture mixes. Both Johnny's and Territorial position it directly against White Dutch clover — Johnny's says it was previously sold under that name, and Territorial rates the New Zealand strain as more vigorous and better able to stand drought. It stays genuinely low, listed at 8 inches by Territorial and up to 12 inches by Johnny's, so it can be left unmown between crop rows without shading the crop. Like Mammoth Red it is a market strain defined by origin and type rather than a protected cultivar, so seed from different suppliers will not be identical.
