About Purple Haze

Purple Haze is a Hylocereus guatemalensis by H. undatus hybrid circulated widely through the Louisiana and Florida nursery trade, and it is one of the heaviest-cropping cultivars a home grower can plant. Spicy Exotics records a 2015 sample at 19 Brix and specimens above 2 lb, and reports roughly three fruiting cycles in a calendar year, which is a genuinely unusual rate for the crop. The plant is described as very aggressive and quick to fill a trellis. It is sometimes conflated online with the seedling 5-S, but the nurseries that carry both treat them as separate clones with different origins. It is self-sterile — some sources claim otherwise, but growers who have tested it report no set without hand pollination.
