About German Red
German Red is a classic rocambole hardneck garlic long grown in the northern United States, prized for its bold, rich, true-garlic flavor. It forms bulbs of eight to twelve easy-to-peel cloves with tan-red skins and, like other rocamboles, requires a genuine cold winter to bulb well, producing coiling scapes in early summer. Storage is shorter than porcelain or softneck types, so it is best enjoyed within a few months of harvest.
