About Catawba
Catawba is a spontaneously occurring cross between the Vitis vinifera wine grape traditionally cultivated in Europe and the Vitis labrusca grape indigenous to North America's eastern seaboard. Its exact origins are unclear, but it appears to have originated somewhere on the East Coast between the Carolinas and Maryland. By the 1850s it had achieved vaunted status in the American wine industry.
