About Honey Jar
Known in China as Fengmiguan, 'Honey Jar' was imported to the United States by the late Roger Meyer in 1995 and has since become the cultivar experienced jujube growers name when asked which one simply tastes best. The fruit is small — NMSU records only 6.5 to 7.8 g — which is exactly why it has never gone commercial, but that small size comes packaged with an unusually thin skin and a fine, dripping-juicy flesh that no larger cultivar matches. It ripens very early, ahead of almost everything else in the collection, which makes it valuable in short-season and marginal climates. UF/IFAS lists it among the cultivars worth trying in Florida and notes its short stature. For a home orchard where flavor beats tonnage, it is the standard recommendation.
