Basella rubra

This tender perennial is native to tropical Asia, likely India and Sri Lanka or Indonesia, hardy only to zone 10, and is easily grown as an annual during the heat of summer in cooler climates. It is a fast-growing, soft-stemmed, twining vine that can grow up to 10 feet long as an annual, generally remaining smaller in most gardens. In addition to being edible it can also be grown as an ornamental foliage vine.
