About Gray

'Gray' is one of a small number of named abiu cultivars grown in Florida, though there is considerable variability among seedling trees. The peel is smooth, tough, and pale to bright yellow when ripe, and the translucent flesh becomes jelly-like with a pleasant, somewhat caramel-flavored pulp once fully ripe. Fruit take 100 to 130 days to develop from flowering, and full ripening occurs in 1 to 5 days once the sticky latex is gone. Some mature seedling trees yield little fruit, while others produce as much as 400 lbs (182 kg) per year.
