Florida EV2

Florida EV2 originated as a Valencia somaclone tree regenerated from protoplasts isolated from an embryogenic suspension culture of standard Valencia (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck), with Valencia sweet orange as the female parent. It was developed by Jude W. Grosser, patented through Florida Foundation Seed Producers Inc, with a patent date of November 13, 2018. Florida EV2 is a true Valencia sweet orange with an altered maturity date, maturing in January to February, 8-12 weeks earlier than the standard Valencia. Replacing Hamlin with such new Valencia types has the potential to improve the flavor and color of NFC (Not From Concentrate) orange juice.
