About Cariflora

'Cariflora' is a cultivar developed at the University of Florida's Tropical Research and Education Center in Homestead, resulting from efforts by Conover et al. to overcome papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) in Florida. It was released in 1986. It has been identified as one of the most PRSV-tolerant papaya varieties ever produced and has been used worldwide, including in Taiwan, Thailand, Latin America, and Hawaii, to further the development of superior PRSV-resistant varieties. The small size of its fruit makes it particularly suitable for commercial plantings, though it can also be useful to home growers.
