Springprince originated as an open-pollinated seedling of Springcrest and was tested as BY82P5972. It was developed by horticulturist W.R. Okie at ARS' Southeastern Fruit and Tree Nut Research Laboratory in Byron, GA, and is adapted to the Southeastern climate.
