Excel

Excel originated as a chance seedling on the homestead of Andy Clough near Blackshear, Georgia; the tree was estimated to be 20 to 25 years old when discovered in 1990. It was later patented and sold out of a nursery by Clough and his son Chris. Excel is a Type II cultivar recommended for trial, producing a large nut similar to Desirable with a thick shell, though nut quality has been marginal due to a low kernel percentage of 49 percent.
