About Forkert
Forkert resulted from a cross of Success and Schley made by C.F. Forkert of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. It is a Type II cultivar recommended for Georgia, averaging 53 nuts per pound and 58 percent kernel with a scab rating of 3 and a harvest date around October 19. Forkert is not a precocious cultivar, averaging only 4.3 pounds of kernels per tree in years 1 to 10, but as a mature tree it produces well, averaging 23 pounds of kernels per tree for years 11 to 20. It is recommended as a producer of large, high-quality nuts especially suitable for the in-shell market.
