About Magilla
Magilla is an ornamental perilla (Perilla frutescens) grown for coleus-like foliage rather than flavor, its wrinkled, serrated leaves up to about 6 inches long splashed with purple, pink, green and cream. It forms a tidy mound roughly 2 feet tall and wide and, unlike culinary perilla, lacks the cinnamon-like fragrance and is not eaten. Grow it in fertile, evenly moist soil in full sun to light shade, where bright light deepens the leaf color. Being essentially seed-sterile it does not self-sow aggressively and is propagated from cuttings.
