About Del Monte Gold

Del Monte Gold (also called MD2) is one of the most common pineapple varieties sold in the United States. It was introduced by Fresh Del Monte in 1996 as a new variety with golden flesh. Del Monte spent about 10 years developing the variety, which is grown in Costa Rica; it was the first new commercial pineapple variety to debut in 20 years.
