Elkton

Elkton was selected from the USDA-ARS breeding program in Beltsville, Maryland, by Dr. K. G. Haynes in 1997, evaluated under the pedigree B1992-106. It was released in cooperation with the University of Florida, Pennsylvania State University, NC State, Rutgers, Cornell University and the University of Maine, and made available for field evaluation under Florida growing conditions in 2003. It is suitable for chipping directly from the field and shows resistance to internal heat necrosis and hollow heart.
