The Red sugar apple type (A. squamosa var. Sangareddyiz) is an Indian selection with red-tinted foliage and flowers and a deep-pink rind. It has mostly non-reducing sugars, an insipid taste, small blackish-pink seeds, and poor quality, and it comes true from seed.
