About Homestead

Homestead is an heirloom, open-pollinated, heat-tolerant tomato developed by the University of Florida and released in the 1950s. It has a determinate growth habit and is listed as a recommended bush-type variety for Georgia gardens, performing well in the Mid-Atlantic region and in southern and hotter climates. Fruits are large, meaty, and average 8 ounces, with bright red, smooth skin and firm, tasty flesh, on sturdy plants reaching 5 to 6 feet tall. It is used for sauces, canning, and preserving.
