About Prathibha

Prathibha, released by ICAR-IISR in 1996 from an open-pollinated progeny selection, is a bold, high-quality turmeric adapted for cultivation across India. A longer-duration type maturing in roughly 225 days, it yields about 39 t/ha of plump, reddish-yellow rhizomes with reddish-brown scales and a high dry recovery near 18 to 19 percent. It ranks among the richest IISR varieties for spice value, with curcumin around 6.5 percent and oleoresin above 16 percent. Prathibha is also noted for resistance to root-knot nematode.
