About Sudarshana

Sudarshana (Sudharsana), released by ICAR-IISR in 1991, is a high-quality short-duration turmeric selected from germplasm accession PCT-14 collected at Singhat, Manipur, and recommended for Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. It matures in about 190 days and yields near 29 t/ha of thick, plump orange rhizomes with a high dry recovery around 20.6 percent. It stands out among IISR releases for very high curcumin, plus oleoresin near 15 percent and essential oil around 7 percent. Sudarshana is field-tolerant to rhizome rot and moderately tolerant to leaf blotch.
