'TropicSweet' (Fla. 90-3) was released by the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, with patent rights assigned to Florida Foundation Seed Producers, Inc. It originated as a (N.J.38 x Anna) polycross, was selected at Gainesville in 1990, and was patented by the University of Florida in 1995. The variety produces a medium size, sweet tasting fruit and, with varieties like it, Florida gardeners can now successfully grow apples, though apples were once only grown in the northern U.S.
