Jersey Knight

Jersey Knight is one of the most popular modern asparagus varieties, part of the all-male Jersey series developed at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Because nearly all plants are male, energy goes into spear production rather than seed, giving significantly higher yields than heirloom types and eliminating volunteer seedlings that crowd the bed. Jersey Knight is prized for its disease tolerance, cold hardiness, and adaptability to heavier soils. Spears are large, thick, and uniform with tight tips and a deep green color often flushed purple. Crowns are vigorous and productive for 15 years or more once established. It is well suited to USDA zones 3 to 8 and is a common choice for both home gardeners and small market growers seeking dependable, heavy harvests.
