About Florida Green
'Florida Green' is one of the most common chayote (Sechium edule) varieties grown in Florida, alongside 'Monticello White'. Native to Guatemala, chayote is a cucurbit that produces light green, pear-shaped fruit weighing between six ounces and three pounds, each holding a single, flat, edible seed. The plant is monoecious, producing separate male and female flowers, and fruit develop from the female flowers about 35 days after pollination.
