About Lomanto

Lomanto is a Pierce's disease tolerant red wine grape cultivar developed by T.V. Munson and released in 1902. It resulted from a cross between the hybrid cultivar Salado (Vitis champinii x Brilliant) and Pense. The black-seeded variety was popular for jellies, juice, and wine, and it became a favorite backyard grape valued for its disease resistance, drought tolerance, and winter hardiness.
