Golden Nugget

'Golden Nugget' (often listed simply as 'Gold Nugget') is a Queensland, Australia selection and is arguably the single most recommended jackfruit for home gardens in Florida. In the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden trial it recorded the highest edible-flesh percentage of any cultivar assessed, around 41 percent of fruit weight, which is exceptional for a species where a third of the fruit is a more typical return. It pairs that with the earliest ripening window of the recommended group and a small, dense, fast-growing canopy that stays easy to pick from. Fruit are small enough to eat in one sitting rather than committing a household to a 40 lb fruit, which is a large part of its popularity. It is carried by Sow Exotic, Everglades Farm and Top Tropicals, usually as a grafted tree.
