About Tigertooth

'Tigertooth' — widely treated as the same cultivar as 'Silverhill' and sometimes listed as 'Tigertooth Late' to separate it from the unrelated 'Tiger Tooth Early' — is the jujube that made the crop viable in the humid Southeast. UF/IFAS names it first among Florida cultivars, citing exceptionally abundant production there, and describes fruit set without cross-pollination, grouping it with the parthenocarpic types. It differs from the grafted Chinese cultivars in a practical way: it grows well on its own roots and propagates freely from root suckers, the traditional Chinese method, so a single tree becomes a small grove if you let it. The fruit is small, elongated and molar-shaped, very sweet, and excellent dried. The sucker habit is either a feature or a nuisance depending on the site.
