Alles

'Alles', also circulated under the name 'Chesley', is a historic California natal plum selection recorded in the standard literature on the crop. Its documented performance is honest but unflattering: it produced very little fruit in California trials, which is why it appears in cultivar lists as a cautionary counterpoint to productive clones like 'Fancy' and 'Torrey Pines'. Its inclusion in the record is still useful, because the pattern of named selections that flower well but crop badly is exactly what led growers to conclude that much of the species is functionally self-infertile and needs a compatible pollen partner. It survives as a name in the reference literature rather than as a nursery item, and a home grower is unlikely to encounter it for sale.
