About Kanza
Kanza was developed from a cross of Major and Shoshoni and released primarily for use in northern pecan growing regions due to its excellent cold hardiness. It is a Type II cultivar recommended for Georgia, averaging 74 nuts per pound and 52 percent kernel with a scab rating of 1 and a harvest date around September 20. Alternate bearing has been a problem, but nut quality in high production years is good. Kanza is not a precocious cultivar, but has good productivity as a mature tree, and is recommended as a replacement for Elliott in northern areas where Elliott would be damaged by late spring freezes.
