About Kiowa

Kiowa is a cultivar of the native pecan tree, named after the Kiowa tribe, originating in Texas from a cross of Mahan and Desirable. It is a Type II cultivar with merit in some situations, averaging 48 nuts per pound and 53 percent kernel with a scab rating of 3 and a harvest date around October 21. It is a precocious cultivar that produces large, thin-shelled, high-quality nuts yearly until it matures, then bears alternately as a mature tree (alternate bearing index 0.65).
