About MD-2

Del Monte took selection 73-114, which it dubbed MD-2 (also called Del Monte Gold), to its plantations in Costa Rica, found it well-suited to growing there, and launched it publicly in 1996. Costa Rica is one of the most important producers and exporters of MD-2. It is the standard for the international market because of its color, flavor, shape, lifespan, and ripeness, and is one of the most popular pineapples grown worldwide.
