Salem

Salem is an upright rosemary noted for combining reasonable cold hardiness with a compact, well-branched habit. It forms a rounded upright shrub typically 2 to 3 feet tall with mid-green leaves and light blue flowers, and it tolerates somewhat colder winters than tender Mediterranean types. Gardeners appreciate its balance of ornamental tidiness and reliable culinary flavor, using its piney foliage for roasts, breads, and seasoning blends. Its manageable size makes it a good fit for herb borders and containers alike. Salem responds well to shearing and can be kept as a small formal hedge in mild climates, and its extended bloom supports bees in a permaculture herb layer.
